Windows 95/98 Setup Instructions

  1. From the desktop, double-click My Computer, and then double-click the Dial-Up Networking icon.
  2. From the Dial-Up Networking window, double-click Make New Connection to start the Make New Connection wizard.
  3. In the Type a name for the computer you are dialing field, Type Absolute Internet."
  4. Click Next.
  5. In the Area code: and Telephone number: fields, leave the area code field empty and enter the phone number as 768-2925
  6. Verify that the United States of America is selected in the Country code field.
  7. Click Next.
  8. When the Make New Connection wizard confirms the creation of a new dial-up networking connection, click Finish.
  9. Right-click on the new Absolute Internet icon in the Dial-Up Networking window, and select Properties from the resulting pop-up menu.
  10. Click on the Server Types tab.
  11. Scroll down and choose PPP from the Type of Dial-Up Server menu.
  12. Check only Enable software compression under Advanced Options.
  13. Check only TCP/IP under Allowed Network Protocols.
  14. Click OK
  15. Double-click the new Absolute Internet icon in the Dial-Up Networking window.
  16. In the Connect To window enter your UserID and password.
  17. Click Connect to begin dialing.
  • If the connection is successful, you should see the Connection Established window.
  • Click Close to minimize the window to the task-bar. While the PPP connection is active, the Dial-Up Networking icon is visible in the task-bar icon-tray (bottom right-hand corner of desktop).
  • To disconnect a PPP connection, double-click on the Dial-Up Networking icon in the task-bar icon-tray, and click Disconnect. You can click OK to return the icon to the task-bar icon-tray, or click Details for information about the current connection.
  • Reminder: Always disconnect when you are done using the Internet.

 

  • Tip: Create a shortcut for this connection on the desktop. The next time you want to connect to Absolute Internet all you will need to do is double-click on the Absolute Internet icon from the Windows desktop, enter your UserID and password, and click Dial.
  • To create a shortcut, double-click on My Computer, double-click on Dial-up Networking, right-click on your Absolute Internet connection icon and select Create Shortcut, and click Yes to put the shortcut on your desktop.
