Windows XP Setup Instructions

  • Click the button and select Control Panel.
  • Click on Network and Internet Connections.
  • Click on Internet Options.
  • Now click on the Connections tab. you'll see a window like this

  1. Click on the setup button. The New Connection Wizard appears. Click Next.
  2. On the next screen, click Connect to the Internet, and then click next.
  3. On the next screen, click Set up my connection manually, and then click next.
  4. On the next screen, click the first option, Connect using a dial-up modem, then click next.
  5. On the next screen, you will be asked for a name for the connection. Type Absolute Internet, and then click next.
  6. Next, you will be asked for the Absolute Internet dial-up phone number. Type in the box 768-2925, and then click next.
  7. Next, type your username and password in the appropriate boxes, and then click next.
  8. On the last screen of the New Connection Wizard, check the box marked Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop then click Finish.
  9. Double-click the Absolute Internet connection icon on the desktop.
  10. Click the Dial button to connect to Absolute Internet.
  • Your modem should start making noises. Then you get a series of pop-up windows with the connection status. Just wait for it to connect.
  • Once you're connected, you will have a status icon in the lower right-hand corner of your screen.
  • Now you can open your web browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape, etc.), email client (Outlook, Eudora, etc.), or ftp program (WS-FTP).
  • To disconnect, double click on the status icon in the lower right-hand corner or the Remote Access icon, click on disconnect.
